What Size Soccer Ball Should My Child Be Using?

Parents often ask us “What size soccer ball should my child be using”?

Youth soccer players play on smaller fields with less players and games are shorter. Their soccer world is smaller and the soccer balls are also smaller.

# 3 Ball

This size ball, is the smallest, weighs 10 oz., is 24 inches in circumference and can be used for players under 8. At Indoor Soccer & Sports Owasso a #3 ball is used for Crazy Cleats – kids ages 2-5 and juniors ages 6-8.

#4 Ball

This ball weighs 12-oz. has a circumference of 26 inches and works for players between the ages of 8 and 12 years. This size ball at ISSO is used for Crazy Cleats Juniors age 8-9.

Leagues U8s  through U12 also may use a size #4 ball.

#5 Ball*

Weighing 14 to 16 oz., with a circumference of 27 to 28 inches is the largest-sized ball, used by players 12 and older.

*A #5 Ball is also used by adults.
